PSC CONGRATULATES GOVERNMENT AND URGES INCLUSIONARY GOVERNANCE

The Private Sector Commission (PSC) congratulates His Excellency, Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo, on his election as President and to the People’s Progressive Party on their election as the Government. The Private Sector Commission also congratulates all of the contesting political parties on conducting an election campaign which focused attention on the political, economic and social issues of the country and, in the main, avoided contentious and hostile campaigning. The PSC also congratulates the security forces for the excellent manner in which they performed their duties in maintaining law and order and safeguarding the nation throughout the election period. The Private Sector Commission looks forward, now that the elections are concluded, to a renewed commitment by the Government and the Opposition to dialogue and consultation on the critical issues of inclusionary governance and a bi-partisan approach to national security. The PSC urges, in particular, that the Government and the Opposition, in partnership with civil society, enter into a Pact obligating all of the political parties to implement, within a specified period of time, the outstanding agreements of the Herdmanstan Accord.

The PSC further urges that the Government treat as a priority, in partnership with the private sector and the trades unions, the implementation of the National Development Strategy and the concomitant National Competitiveness Strategy.
