11TH JULY 2006
MEDIA RELEASE
The Sunday Stabroek newspaper

On Sunday, 2nd July, 2006, the Sunday Stabroek newspaper published on its front page the headline “Private Sector would support Greene as top cop”.

As the leading private sector body, the Private Sector Commission would like to state that at no time was the matter of a successor to the Police Commissioner, or any related matter, discussed by the Commission.  The PSC is also advised by its members that they were not a part of any such discussion at any other fora.

The PSC fully recognises that the appointment of a Commissioner of Police must be in accordance with the requirements of the Constitution and expects that this would be duly observed.

The PSC further wishes to state that it has no position on the choice of a successor to the Police Commissioner and would support the appointment of anyone who satisfies the leadership qualities, character and integrity required for holding such a distinguished office.
